Silver Linings Playbook was also nominated for having Best Supporting Actress. Jacki Weaver is to thank for that nomination. Her role in the film is being the mother of a man who ended up in a mental institution as punishment after beating a man near death.
As a mother of a mentally ill person, it is natural to be protective of their son and only want what is best for him. After eight months in the mental institution Pat's mom brought him back home. He constantly speaks about getting back together with his wife who has a restraining order against him and wants nothing to do with him. As he does, it is painful for Pat's mother to hear him speak like that because she understands reality and cant find a way to make Pat understand that his wife, better said ex-wife, has moved on.
I truly feel that Jacki Weaver's performance has a great chance of receiving the award because she was able to portray a loving and caring mother quite well. The emotion she conveyed to Pat was genuine. She fit the character well.
I'm gonna have to disagree. Sorry :) I heard that Jackie Weaver is actually a really good actress. I just don't think that her character really showcased what she's capable of doing. But nevertheless, I loved Silver Linings Playbook.
